New camera gear - Switch from Canon to Sony
I was considering modernizing my camera for a long time and after my old camera started acting up a few weeks ago the decision was made easy for me. This meant for me also the long-awaited switch from a DSLR to mirrorless. Normally, I would have loved to stay with Canon and keep my current lenses. But the more I investigated Canons offerings and recent news I saw myself looking at other manufacturers. Here a short list of my reasons:
As someone who likes large prints and landscape photography the 20.1MP sensor of the Canon R6 is a tough sell.
The Canon R5 looks like a very promising camera with a lot of nice features, but the price tag is a bit too steep for me.
Recently, we saw that Canon suppresses third party lenses for their RF mount. I always liked third party lenses (especially Sigma and Tamron), not only for their lower price tag, but also because they often offer different options and interesting specs.
The first two points may would be solved with time, but the last one nudged me over the edge. After reading a lot of test articles and watching nearly every test on Youtube I made the decision to switch to Sony. So, I sold my old Canon gear on Ebay and started fresh with a new Camera and one lens: The Sony Alpha 7 IV with the Sony 24-105G F4.0 OSS.
While it wasn’t an easy decision to start completely fresh it is nonetheless an exciting one. And at least after my short first weeks with the new camera I’m very impressed with the ease of use, the offered functionalities and I also like the results I get.
